Advance Level Workshop on Nature Camp Activities on Conservation of Bioresources and Biodiversity

The Gujarat Council of Science City (GCSC) is organizing a five days Workshop on Nature Camp Activities on Conservation of Bioresources and Biodiversity for Teachers and Students from 8th to 12th September 2006. The workshop has been catalyzed and supported by National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India.
The workshop aims to give a practical training to observe, explore and understand the nature and its interrelationship. It also provides a comprehensive training module and exposure to various techniques of nature conservation and related activities on local flora and fauna. About 50 selected participants comprising of science teachers, science communicators and Nature Club members from different districts of the state have been invited to attend the workshop.
The workshop is sixth in its series and has been designed as a part of its activities by inculcating scientific methods in nature activity camps. The Gujarat Science City already conducted five workshops to train the participants from twenty five districts of Gujarat. The workshop includes several interactive activities on living nature, the world of plants, birds, insects and small animals. It also describes the animate nature, about soil, river and water bodies and people and their habitats.
Shri M. L. Sharma, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Gujarat State has kindly consented to inaugurate this five days workshop tomorrow at 12.00 hrs. Dr. Saroj Ghose, Advisor, GCSC will deliver a keynote address on our rich bioresources.
Among other resource persons, Dr. (Smt.) Shashi Ahuja, Scientist F and Director, NCSTC-DST, New Delhi, Shri B. K. Tyagi, Scientist, Vigyan Prasar, DST, Govt of India, New Delhi, Shri S. D. Vora, Executive Director, GCSC, Shri D. S. Narvey, Director, Marine National Park, Jamnagar, Dr. Avinash B. Vora, Former Professor of Botany, Gujarat University, Shri Uday Vora, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Training & Research), Dr. Narottam Sahoo, Shri A. R. Mahanty, Shri Manish Dhroov, Shweta Agrawal, Shri Ashish Handa, from Science City will coordinate various interactive session.
On the third day, the participants will visit the Blackbuck National Park at Velavadar as on job training. The programme will be concluded on 12th September 2006.
The science of biodiversity has become the science of our future! Through the above programme, the Gujarat Science City will able to increase the student's knowledge and appreciation of state's genetic resources and environment and inspire commitment to preserve its existence.
