This is not an examination for which neither coaching classes nor ubiquitous
'21 sets' can offer much assistance. From Tuesday, 4th September 2007, while most of all will by busy in celebration of the Janmastami festival, about 150 toppers of SSC board, who are now studying in Std XI science will take an orientation training to crack equations, brew concoctions and prove their skills to excel in national and international science olympiads in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology subjects.
The Gujarat Science City, working under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Gujarat is organizing a four days Orientation Programme on National & International Science Olympiads for the meritorious students of Std X and XI of Gujarat from 4th September 2007 to 7th September 2007.
The programme aims to aware the toppers to know and enroll for the National and International Science Olympiads in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Astronomy, which have been organizing every year at national and international level.
The students will receive a comprehensive lesson on the syllabus, types of questions and their cracking techniques, reference books to achieve excel in this prestigious academic event. It will also teach them the successful tips for how to be successful in the above competitions.
Eminent scientists and Faculties including Prof. Bharat Chatoo, Head, Department of Biotechnology, M.S. University, Vadodara, Prof. D. V. Prabhu, Dean of Science, Mumbai University, Prof. K. N. Joshipura, Head, Department of Physics, S. P. University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Prof. A. M. Vaidya, Prof.

Prof. Vijay Singh, National Coordinator, Science Olympiads programme who is now with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) of Tata Institute of Fundamental research (TIFR), Mumbai will interact with the students on 7th September 2007.
The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education of TIFR is the nodal centre for the Science Olympiads programme in physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology and astronomy subjects. About 30,000 to 40,000 students enrolled in each of the subjects every year for these prestigious events. The programme is being conducted through four different stages and the final team consisting of 4 to 5 students in different disciplines in international science olympiads.
However, the enrollment of students in Gujarat is not satisfactory to this event as compared to other states.
Gujarat Science City in close coordination with the Department of Science & Technology and Department of Education, Govt of Gujarat is taking a bold step by organizing such orientation programme for the senior students. In addition, the Gujarat Science City is also introducing Junior Science Olympiads for the secondary school students so that they can excel in their board examination as well to prepare themselves for the national and international science Olympiads in latter stage.
Science Olympiads are an exhilarating and uplifting movement for students, teachers and the organizers. Keen interest in subject, inventiveness, critical analysis, creativity and perseverance are necessary to tackle the task in the Olympiad.
If we could successful in organizing such event in the science city, it would be a boost both for student and teachers of the state. It may be appreciated that the Gujarat Science City will be the first in organizing the junior science and math olympiads at the state level among all other
states of the country.
We request your kind support and cooperation in the success of this programme.
With warm regards.
