State Level Workshop on Innovative Experiments in Physics at Science City
State Level Workshop on Innovative Experiments in Physics at Science City
Physics Teachers in Gujarat will receive a hands-on training on new sets of innovative experiments which will inspire the students as well as create interest in understanding the concept and method of science. Thanks to Gujarat Science City for organizing a state level workshop on innovative experiments in physics from 11th to 13th January 2008.
The innovative programme on physics has been catalyzed and supported by Vigyan Prasar (VP), Government of India. About 70 participants comprising of secondary school and college physics teachers have been selected and invited to attend the three-day residential workshop at Science City. Eminent Physicist Dr. H. C. Verma, Department of Physics of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur will conduct the workshop along with the scientists from Vigyan Prasar.
The training programme aims to upgrade the quality of physics education in the state at school/college/university levels and to provide a good motivation to achieve excellence in their professional career. The workshop will have only experimental components along with computer interfaced demonstrations.
The workshop will be inaugurated by Dr. V. B. Kamble, Advisor, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and Director, Vigyan Prasar on 11th January 2008 at 10:30 hrs in the Auditorium I at Science City.
Dr. H. C. Verma is pioneer in designing demonstrations of a series of novel activities that may help enhance interest in physics amongst students and teachers. The demonstrations have a greater impact on conceptual understanding of physics rather than verification of experiments described in the test book. The programme will also include the orientation on the International Year of Planet Earth by Shri B. K. Tyagi, Scientist, VP, New Delhi. The computer interfaced experiments will be demonstrated by Shri Rintu Nath, Principal Scientific Officer, VP. Prof. N. M. Ashok, Chairman, Astronomy and Astrophysics, PRL, Dr. R. P. Dubey, Space Application Centre (ISRO), Dr. Saroj Ghose, Advisor, Science City and professors from Gujarat University and SP University will also conducting different sessions during the programme.
According to Dr. V. B. Kamble, Advisor, DST, Govt of India, teaching physical science in schools and in colleges can be challenging for busy teachers faced with growing science demands and limited classroom resources. It is an urgent need of designing extensive activity modules, illustrative examples, sample inquiry questions, and ideas for initiating units which will be give a new dimension to present day classroom situation.
Popularization of science to create scientific temper in the society is the priority task for Gujarat Science City which is working under the aegis of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat. Physics is the training ground for the brightest, most inquisitive and best problem-solving people on Earth. It is expected that the training programme will provide an ideal platform in bringing creativity and innovation in the state-of-the-art physics teaching and learning.
We take this opportunity to invite one and all to this innovative workshop and to
With warm regards.
