One Day Seminar on Men At Work
Gujarat Science City in association with UNFPA Gujarat State Office, Gandhinagar is organizing various activities on the theme ˜Men as Partners in Maternal Health" on Wednesday, the 11th July 2007 to mark the celebration of World Population Day.
The celebration is a world-wide event being coordinated by the United Nations of Development Fund (UNFPA), seeks to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues, particularly in the context of overall development plans and programmes, and the need to find solutions for these issues.
A seminar on ˜Men At Work" has been organized at Science City from 10.30 hrs to 17.00 hrs. The seminar will discuss how men play a key role in bringing about gender equality since, in most societies, men exercise preponderant power in nearly every sphere of life, ranging from personal decisions regarding the size of families to the policy and programme decisions taken at all levels. About 150 participants, comprising of social science teachers, faculties, education students, parents and the media persons are participating in the seminar.
Shri Rajeev Tewari, State Programme Coordinator of United Nations Population Fund, Gujarat State Office will inaugurate the seminar and the celebration at 10.30 hrs in Auditorium I. Eminent faculties including Prof. Basudev Raval, Director, State Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Dr. Parul Kotdawala, Chairperson, Adolescent Health Committee, Mrs. Radha Sharma, Coordinator, Save The Girl Child campaign of Times of India, etc. will interact on various issues on men at women's lives.
World Population Day is a time to focus on commitment and action to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV/AIDS, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect. The theme of this year's World Population Day is Men as Partners in Maternal Health.
Improvement in maternal health and advancing gender equality is now becomes the main concern. And men can make a tremendous contribution by using their power for positive change. Men have power in wide-ranging situations from personal and family decisions to policy and programme decisions taken at all levels.
Gujarat Science City is organizing several programmes and activities that depict various scientific themes linked with the day-to-day life and to inculcate scientific temper, attitude for awareness and empowerment of the community. In addition, visitors may explore the marvel of science in the Hall of Science, experience the IMAX 3D movies on science, quest for new knowledge at Children Activity Centre, learn all about energy in the Energy Education Park and spare the evening at the grand Musical Fountain inside the lush green Science City campus.
On this World Population Day, let us all encourage men to become partners and agents for change, supporting human rights and safe motherhood in every way possible, thus contributing to creating a world of greater health and opportunity for all.
