CELEBRATION OF WATER, WEATHER & FORESTS

Gujarat Science City, working under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Gujarat, organizes various activities on forests, water and weather to celebrate the world forests day, world water day and the world meteorological day on 21, 22 and 23rd of this March. The celebrations aim to sensitize the children about the importance of water, weather and forests and its interdependence. The programme will work with an understanding of many functions of water, weather and forests fulfill for people: cultural, ecological, economic and social.

It is crucial to explore the balance between the different uses of our bioresources, in order to begin to understand the complexity of human interaction with natural resources.

The activities aim to reach at children, parents, educators, and communities with water, weather and forests education.

World Forestry Day has been celebrated around the world for 30 years to remind communities of the importance of forests and the many benefits which we gain from them. The concept of having a World Forestry Day originated at the 23rd General Assembly of the European Confederation of Agriculture in 1971.

World Water Day is being celebrated by the UNESCO on the theme coping with water scarcity. This year's theme highlights the increasing significance of water scarcity worldwide and the need for increased integration and cooperation to ensure sustainable, efficient and equitable management of scarce water resources, both at international and local levels. There is a special programmeon Water Awareness for School Children.

World Meteorological Day is being celebrated every year on 23 March to commemorate the entry into force on that date in 1950 of the WMO Convention creating the Organization. The theme of this year celebration is "Polar meteorology: understanding global impacts", in recognition of the importance of, and as a contribution to, International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008.

The Indian Meteorology Department Ahmedabad and the Meteorology and Oceanography Group of SAC-ISRO, Ahmedabad are joined with Science City for organisation of various activities on world meteorological day celebration.

The Planet Earth does not need our help, it will prevail. What we need to save is our own future and that of our children. The science of water, weather and forests are very much interdependence. It is most important to spread the awareness on the judicious use of natural resources and to maintain the sustainable development.

The science of nature is going to be the science of our future. Let's work together for its conservation and to ensure a new and sustainable relationship between humanity and the natural world for the generations to come.

Gujarat Science City invites one and all to join us in educating children about the most precious resources on the planet like water and forests which are also monitoring the weather for societal development.
