Happy Environment Day !

It is our pleasure to
inform you that the Gujarat Council of Science City (GCSC), working under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat, is organizing several activities for school children, teachers and the general visitors to mark the celebration of World Environment Day on Tuesday, the 5th June 2007.
The World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. The theme for this year celebration is "Melting Ice: A Hot Topic!" -- reflects the impact that climate change is having in all regions.
A large number of school children and their teachers have been invited to Science City for this occasion and to take part in various hands-on activities to understand the science of climate change and its societal impact. About 300 science teachers of primary and secondary schools across the state will participate in one day workshop on "Climate Change: A Concern for Future". The workshop aims to increase understanding and awareness about the present scenario of global warming and climate change.
School students from Class I to Class 12 can participate in the activities like poster painting and Green Quiz Competitions. The meritorious students will be awarded with prizes and certificates. All the paintings will be displayed at the Science City.
In addition the participants as well as the general visitors may participate in tree plantation, screening of biodiversity movies, illustrative poster exhibition along with interactions with eminent scientists on the theme. A brief of the programme is enclosed herewith for your kind perusal.
We take this opportunity to invite you to the above celebration at Science City. On this World Environment Day, let us recognize the need to slow the momentum of the dramatic environmental changes we are experiencing all around and let each of us pledge to do our part to fight climate change.
Thanking you and with best regards.
Yours sincerely, D. B. Mehta Executive Director
