State Level Training Camp for Physics Teachers at Science City
State Level Training Camp for Physics Teachers at Science City
A novel camp programme for Physics Teachers of the state is in the offing at Science City, jointly with Indian Association of Physics Teachers and Gujarat Science City from 19th to 22nd November 2007. Teaching physical science in schools and in colleges can be challenging for busy teachers faced with growing science demands and limited classroom resources. Gujarat Science City is designing extensive activity modules, illustrative examples, sample inquiry questions, and ideas for initiating units which will be readily available for teachers to pick and choose from to meet student needs.

The Indian Physics Teacher Association, Gujarat regional council
(IAPT-Gujarat) joined with Gujarat Science City and designed the State Level Physics Teachers Training Camp. About 50 secondary school and college teachers have been selected and invited to attend the four-day residential workshop at Gujarat Science City and to chalk out the activity plan for creating interest and excitement in physics education. The training programme aims to upgrade the quality of physics education in the state at school/college/university levels and to provide a good motivation to achieve excellence in their professional career. The workshop will have both theoretical and experimental components along with product exhibition.
Dr. Vinay B. Kamble, Advisor to Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India and Director of Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi has kindly given his consent to inaugurate the training camp on the 19th November 2007 at 10:30 hrs at Science City and will interact with the participants about innovations and excitements in experimental physics. Prof. Narendra Bhandari, Sr. Professor at Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad will deliver the key-note address on Indian Moon Mission.
In addition, the program will be coordinated by Prof. K. N. Joshipura, Head, Department of Physics, S. P. University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, who is also the Secretary of IAPT Gujarat. IAPT, a voluntary organisation of physicists and physics educators all over India are dedicated to the common cause of quality physics education and its popularization in the country. Since its inception in 1984, it has achieved many of its missions with its members including school, college, university teachers, research workers, science administrators and science savvy enthusiasts through 20 regions and regional councils. The IAPT RC 7, for Gujarat, with more than 200 physics educators of the state, is undertaking several programmes and activities to make the missionary task simpler and interesting. The Camp is being organized under the 'Acharya P. A. Pandya Memorial Fund' donation given by Prof. Sudhirbhai P. Pandya, an eminent Nuclear Physicist and former Director of PRL, Ahmedabad.
Popularization of science to create scientific temper in the society is the priority task for Gujarat Science City which is working under the aegis of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat. Physics is the training ground for the brightest, most inquisitive and best problem-solving people on Earth. It is expected that the training programme will provide an ideal platform in bringing creativity and innovation in the state-of-the-art physics teaching and learning.
We take this opportunity to invite you all to this programme and to advice us for its further enrichment.
