Student Sponsorship Program for 58th International Astronautical Congress (IAC-2007)
In order to promote space science and technology amongst the students, the Astronautical Society of India along with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is organizing the 58th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) during Sept 24-28, 2007 in Hyderabad. The Congress primarily attracts students with keen interest in space-related studies.
This year, ISRO is sponsoring a large contingent of 50 students, to be selected at national level to participate in IAC-2007. The selected students will get an opportunity to interact with leading scientists and administrators from the 30 odd reputed space agencies of the world. For many students this is an opportunity that will strongly motivate towards their studies, research and future career path.
The selection process for the students envisages screening of undergraduate and postgraduate students of science, engineering and law discipline at three levels comprising objective questions, essays and personal interview beginning at nodal centres which are well-known scientific promotion institutes. The Space Application Centre (ISRO), Ahmedabad is the nodal centre for above activities in the western zone.
For Gujarat State, the SAC-ISRO has identified six local nodal centres namely, Gujarat Science City and Vikram A. Sarabhai Community Science Centre in Ahmedabad, O.P. Sheth Lokvigyan Kendra in Rajkot, Regional Community Science Centre in Vadodara, Kutch-Mitra Regional Community Science Centre in Bhuj and Community Science Centre in Surat. The details of the selection process, eligible criteria and questioneries are being available at www.iac2007.org.
Students who have a dream to fly high and wish to make a career in space may enroll their name and address by submitting the entry form along with filled-in questionnaire in respective categories on or before 10th May 2007. The local nodal centres may be enquired for more detail about the programme and selection process.
