Popular Science Lecture on "The Joy of Science!"
The Gujarat Science City is announcing the popular science lecture on the topic "The Joy of Inventing" to be delivered by Dr. Pushpito Kumar Ghosh, Director Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI), Bhavnagar on the Saturday, the 2nd September 2006 at 3.00 pm in Auditorium I.
The lecture is the third of its series titled as "Science Matters" that aims to bring awareness among the young students, parents, teachers and the media persons about the fascinating world of basic sciences and its promising future. The series deals with topics on frontier areas of science and technology for the spreading of new knowledge and awareness among the students as well as the public at large.
Are the joys of invention only for the special few, for geniuses like Planck and Einstein, de Broglie and Schrodinger? No, you can also understand and enjoy science, because the thinking used in science is not strange and mysterious, it's the same thinking you use in daily life.
And there is more about the joy of science, especially the pleasure of appreciating the magnificent beauties of nature — in sky and sea, rivers and mountains, forests and meadows, plants and animals.
The Joy of Inventing will explore on - why we invent, what it means, and what to do with it when it's all done. The lecture will provide an insight about fundamental science, patents, intellectual property and open source, and shoes that moo when you walk.
Dr. Pushpito Kumar Ghosh, an eminent chemist, is widely known as a scientists with many important inventions and discoveries to his credit. He is a member of many important scientific committees and has a large number of international patents and publications to his credit. Dr. Ghosh is the recipient of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Award, the DaimlerChrysler Environment Leadership Award and CLRI Padmabhushan Dr Y Nayudamma Chemcon Distinguished Speaker Award.
The interaction will provide clarity on the importance of scientific methods and the role that basic and applied science processes play in the present and future.
