Popular Science Lecture Series at Gujarat Science City
The first Lecture: "In Search of Life"
The Gujarat Science City is going to start a series of popular science lectures on frontier areas of science and technology for the spreading of new knowledge and awareness among the students as well as the public at large.
Titled as "Science Matters" the programme aims to bring awareness among the young students, parents, teachers and the media persons about the fascinating world of basic sciences and its promising future. Eminent scientists and technocrats along with UNESCO Popular Science Prize winners in India are being invited to address on the issues and the prospective of the cutting edge knowledge on science and technology to a larger number of audiences in regular manner in every month.
The first lecture in this series has been planned as In Search of Life on 31st May 2006 at 5.00 pm and to be delivered by Padmashree Dr. Saroj Ghose, the past President of the International Council of Museums in Paris (1992-98), past Chairman of the Science Centre World Congress (1996-99), and retired Director General of the National Council of Science Museums of India (1979-97)
Dr. Saroj Ghose has been instrumental in developing a large chain of 26 interactive science centres all over India, including the first Science City at Kolkata. He served as adviser to the Khalsa Heritage Centre in Punjab, and science centers in Egypt, Yemen and Trinidad. Presently Dr. Ghose is working as Technical Advisor to Gujarat Science City.
