Hall of Science
"Tell me, I'll forget Show me. I'll remember, Involve me. I'll understand" that is an old Chinese proverb. The Hall of Science is a big open laboratory, where visitors are involved in hand on exhibits. Here visitors learn science though a discovery process. They move through different enclaves on light, vision, mirrors kinematics, mathematics, sound, fluidics, energy and put their hands on interactive exhibits, And with Spark Theatre, visitors will experience the flying sparks from a million volt generator. That is the new system of understanding through involvement in the Science City.
1) Light Island

A series of table-top hands-on experiments demonstrate how light gets reflected on different kinds of mirrors, refracted through different lenses, undergoes total internal reflection in diamonds and scattered in atmosphere to explain why the sky looks blue. Polarisation, interference and diffraction are observed in spectaacular exhibits. Colours are added and subtracted, complementary colours are formed by mixing three primary colours and coherent light beam is created in lasers.

2) Eyes And Vision

Interactive exhibits demonstrate how our eyes receive inverted image on the retina, how the pupil controls light on the retina, the reasons for short-sightedness and long sightedness and remedies by appropriate lenses, response of rods and cones for peripheral vision and colour sensine. Light, eyes and brain all three are equally responsible for vision and exhibits explain what wrong if any one these three requirements malfuncttion. A series of optical illusion explain the role of brain in correct interpretation of the images.

3) Transformation

Energy can neither be created not destroyed, it can only be transferred from one form to the other. The interactive exhibits in this enclave demonstrate how energy is transformed from potential to kinetic and back, light to electrical and back, sound to electrical and back, heat to electrical and back, chemical to electrical and back magnetism to electrical and back mechanical to electrical and back solar to electrical and vibration to electrical energy.

4) Illusion of Mirrors

Mirrors usually reflect the images. But what about the mirrors which distort or reverse the image ? Half mirrors that combine two images into one and create an illusion ? Mirrors that do not show you, but always project your friend standing by your side ? The virtual image where you see a rose but can never catch it ? And a big mirror muze wherein you almost get lost in multiple reflection ? it look like a magic world with mirrors doing all the tricks.

5) Mathematics

Too difficult or even dreadful a subject ? Here it is all fun with mothematics. Waves created on one focus of an elliptical wave tank always converge to the other focus. A striker from one focus of an elliptical carom board always hits the other focus. Balls rolling down the incline always falll in a hole placed at the focus of a parabolic reflector Balls released form the top hit different pegs at random and form a Gaussian curve at the collector. A toy train moves seamlessly on both sides of a Mobius band. It is a playground with mathematics.

6) Kinematics

You can paddle a bicycle to generate electricity for lighting lamps and operating a television. Rolling balls pass through a series of nine loops without falling down, thanks to the outward push given by the centrifugal force. Rolling balls in a gravity well demonstrate how the planets move around the Sun. Conservation of angular momentum is demonstrated by a rotating chair where you can regulate the angular velocity by pushing a weight further or vice versa. Power is transmitted through a gear train or various linkages. You can lift yourself up with a pulley system.

7) World of Sound

Visitors can enjoy the sound of a still night in a village, or all the sounds of a forest with flowing rivers and clirping birds, or the hustle of a metropolis. And then measure their hearing ability with the help of an audiometer delay in transmission of sound in a long speaking tube demonstrates limitation in the velocity of sound in air. You can witness the nodes and antinodes of a vibrating string and the effect of ressonance in a vibrating body. You can generate musical tones in a See beck Siren and create your own music in an electronic organ.

8) Fluidics

Water lifted by a pump to overhead tank acquires potential energy. Water flowing in gravity converts potential energy to kinetic energy and drives wheels, generates electricity, sounds chimes and demonstrates scientific principles of buoyancy, Pascal’s law, Siphon, Bernoulli’s principle etc. Laminar flow of air causes an aero plane to fly and visitors can feel the upward thrust on their bodies. Visitors can also create an artificial tornado or a churning vortex in river or send letters through pneumatic mail.
